Unique Eco-Friendly Present Ideas for Dad

Father's Day History

Father's Day has been celebrated since the Middle Ages, but only became an official holiday in 1972!  In Catholic Europe, Father's Day is celebrated on March 19th, while in the Coptic Church, the celebration takes place on July 20th, also known as St. Joseph's Day.

A bill to make Father's Day a national holiday was first introduced to Congress in 1913.  In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson tried unsuccessfully to make it once again a holiday, but Congress refused, as they were afraid that it would become "too commercialized."  It was not until 1966--more than 50 years later--that President Lyndon B. Johnson issued a presidential proclamation declaring the third Sunday in June as a day to honor fathers, and in 1972 President Richard Nixon finally signed it into law and made it an official holiday!

Himalayan Salt BBQ Plank

Does your dad love to grill?  This Himalayan Salt BBQ Plank from Uncommon Goods is perfect for the dad who is most at home when he's in the kitchen.  It can be chilled and used to serve sushi or heated over a grill or frying pan to cook veggies.  This just might be the ultimate eco-friendly gift for dad!

Auto Timing Chain and Gears Wall Clock

If your dad is happier when he's out in the garage, then this cool clock made from reclaimed auto parts is just the thing.  Each piece features part numbers and other details that make it a truly one-of-a-kind gift for your favorite dad!

Beechwood Beard Brush

For the hipster dad in your life, this beard brush from Bambeco is crafted from sustainably managed European beech trees and cruelty-free boar bristles.  Plus, it's a beard brush...shaped like a mustache.  Because of COURSE it is!

Olive Wood Globe

If your dad is the guy who has everything, and you've been wracking your brains trying to figure out what to get him that will cement your favored-child status...Bambeco has you covered.  This olive wood globe (available in two sizes) is made from sustainably sourced olive wood that is harvested when the tree ceases to produce fruit and oil (typically when it is between 350 and 700 years old).  The cool part is that the tree is not cut down--it is simply pruned in order to stimulate new growth--a process that can be repeated for thousands of years.  So your dad's globe could very well be from a tree that has been around for millennia!  Let's see your brother top that one!

No matter what you choose to get your dad, he's going to love it (or at least he'll tell you he does!) but if you let us help you choose the gifts, you're sure to hit it out of the park this year!
